Prime Minister Kristen Michal will participate in the Ukraine Coalition of the Willing meeting hosted by French President Emmanuel Macron in Paris on Tuesday, 6 January.
“The focus of our meeting will be on the contribution of Europe and like-minded partners to the defence of Ukraine and ensuring a just and lasting peace,” said Prime Minister Michal. “While Ukraine is seizing every opportunity to bring peace closer and their negotiations with the US are progressing, it is clear that Russia has not changed its objectives. Pressure on Russia and strong support for Ukraine must continue,” he stressed.
According to Michal, cooperation between the US and Europe is crucial to ensure strong and credible security guarantees for Ukraine. Estonia actively participates in the Ukraine Coalition of the Willing, which brings together 35 countries, and is ready to contribute to Ukraine’s security guarantees with a company-sized unit, instructors and staff officers. The deployment of Estonian military personnel to Ukraine requires a mandate from the Riigikogu.
The meeting starts at the Élysée Palace on Tuesday afternoon.
